Frequently Asked Questions About Permanent Jewelry
What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is a claspless, welded piece of jewelry that can be applied to many areas of the body, including but not limited to: neck, wrists, fingers, toes and ankles.

How does permanent jewelry work?

Permanent jewelry is applied with a pulse arc welding machine which allows for dainty metals to be welded together in the fraction of a second. The quick spark of the machine welds the metal together which eliminates the need for a clasp.

Metals can be welded to themselves, or jump rings can be used in place of a clasp to allow the jewelry to be permanent. The spark generated during this process is not of high temperature which will results in quick and safe application.

Each piece of permanent jewelry is custom fit to the client for a truly unique and personalized experience.

How long does getting permanent jewelry take?

Approximately 10 minutes per piece of jewelry. If you have a scheduled appointment, we ask you please arrive 5 minutes early.

Can you add a clasp to the jewelry?

Yes, a clasp can be added if requested. Please note this will add time to the appointment and is offered based on availability. The price for a clasp will depend on the metal selected.

What is the difference between 14K Gold & 14K Gold Filled jewelry?

Solid gold is referred to as 24K, as gold purity is measured in 24 parts. 14K Gold means that the jewelry is 14 parts gold and 10 parts alloy metal (typically this alloy is a mix of copper and silver, occasionally zinc is also used). 14K Gold jewelry is considered fine jewelry and can last a lifetime.

Gold Filled jewelry is very similar to solid gold. They hold many of the same qualities, yet it requires less of an investment. When gold jewelry is filled 5% of the jewelry is 14K Gold. It is made by pressure bonding a layer of gold to the surface of a base metal, typically brass. This is 100x more gold than gold plated jewelry and due to the pressure bonding, it deteriorates at a much slower rate than gold plating.

Who shouldn't get permanent jewelry?

If you have a pacemaker you should not get permanent jewelry due to the welding process. It is rare to be allergic to 14K Gold or 14K Gold Filled jewelry. None of the materials we carry contain nickel.

Can children get permanent jewelry?

Yes, at bijoux x brie we offer permanent jewelry to children 13 and up. A parent must be present and complete the waiver.

Can men get permanent jewelry too?

Absolutely! We believe everyone deserves to use custom jewelry to express themselves.

Does permanent jewelry hurt?

NO! Permanent jewelry does not cause any harm and it should never be painful. You will not feel anything as we are only working on the metal, not your skin! With our machine, should your skin come into contact with the weld point it will not generate a spark.

Is permanent jewelry really permanent?

Depending on the material selected and how well you care for your fine jewelry, permanent jewelry should last between 1 to 10 years+. 14K Gold chains can last a lifetime with proper care. Gold Filled jewelry is not designed to last forever and will eventually wear with time.

Keep in mind jewelry will stretch over time, which is why your permanent jewelry from bijoux x brie is custom fit by our certified permanent jewelry artists.

Charms and chains may snag on clothing and other items. While the jewelry we offer is strong, it is dainty fine jewelry and it is not invincible. Please be mindful of your lifestyle when selecting charms.

(Story time: When Brie got her first piece of permanent jewelry, a 14K Gold Filled bracelet, she selected a cute wishbone charm. While absolutely adorable, it was not compatible with her work and #momlife. It broke off within a few weeks, but the bracelet is still completely intact and shiny to this day.)

Can permanent jewelry be removed?

Yes, scissors or nail clippers can be used at the weld point to remove the jewelry. We highly recommend visiting us for professional removal, especially if you would like the piece rewelded in the future.

Can I go through TSA with permanent jewelry on?

Yes! TSA does not require travelers to remove fine jewelry. Our jewelry will not set off a metal detector.

What if I need an x-ray, MRI, surgery, etc.?

If you need a medical procedure that requires the removal of your permanent jewelry we recommend visiting us for professional removal, especially if you would like it rewelded in the future. In case of emergency, you can use scissors or nail clippers to remove permanent jewelry.

What about allergies?

bijoux x brie does not sell any jewelry containing nickel, nor plated jewelry. We want your jewelry to last years, not days or weeks. If you're sensitive to metals and typically choose 14K Gold, you should be fine with our 14K Gold Filled pieces, however there is a never a guarantee and bijoux x brie is not responsible for allergic reactions.

How do I care for my permanent jewelry?

bijoux x brie only offers the highest quality 14K Gold and 14K Gold Filled chain.

Permanent jewelry can undergo years of wear without needing to be removed for professional cleaning. However, to maintain the the integrity of the link, aftercare is recommended. Your jewelry comes into contact daily with many substances, chemicals and debris. Think about rain, humidity, sweat, lotion, perfume, lint from clothing, etc.

You can clean your fine gold jewelry by using a soft jewelry cleaning cloth (included with your purchase) or if it needs a little scrub use warm water and Dawn dish soap with a baby tooth brush (this is also a great way to get your diamonds to sparkle too!). Whether washing your hands or your cleaning jewelry, be sure to completely dry your permanent jewelry.

What happens if my permanent jewelry gets damaged?

Due to the custom nature of permanent jewelry, all sales are final. We are not responsible for damaged, broken, lost or stretched chain/charms.

Do you offer repairs?

Yes, should your jewelry break at the weld point, a complimentary reweld will be offered. This is uncommon as you will be included in the inspection of the weld site at your initial appointment with bijoux x brie.

Repairs require an in-person inspection before feasibility and cost can be determined.
