What is permanent jewelry?

Updated: Dec 21, 2023

Great question! Permanent jewelry is claspless, welded jewelry. A microwelder is used to weld a jump ring, connector charm or the chain itself, creating a seemless closure. No more silly clasps, or struggling to try to put on a bracelet one handed.

The most common permanent jewelry pieces are: bracelets, necklaces, rings and anklets, however the possibilities are pretty endless!

It lasts 1 - 10 years (or longer) depending on the metal of the chain, charm(s) and/or connector(s) used. The metal with the longest lifespan is 14K Gold, followed by 14K Gold Filled and Sterling Silver. (Some permanent jewelry artists offer gold plated, stainless steel or enamel chains, however these metals don't hold up to the test of time, which is why we don't offer them here at bijoux x brie. We want your permanent jewelry to last!)

If you want to remove your jewelry, simply cut the weld point with scissors. When you're ready to have it put back on, make an appointment to have it rewelded.

Permanent jewelry is a great alternative to tattoos or piercings if you're looking for a way to express yourself in a less permanent fashion. This also makes it a great option for couples, best friends, mothers & daughters, etc. to show their commitment and wear a special reminder of their bond every day.

Those struggling with poor fine motor skills also enjoy permanent jewelry, as it eliminates the daily struggle of putting jewelry on and taking it off.

One thing I love about permanent jewelry (as a mom of three) is that it saves you time! No more removing your jewelry before bed or worrying about what to wear. You can get yourself a matching set or stack, and it comes in so many timeless options. To my fellow mamas: trust me, every minute you can save yourself during your morning routine helps! Think of it as the permanent make-up of jewelry.

If you love travel like I do, you may be wondering if you'll have any trouble with TSA. Good news! TSA will not ask you to remove your fine jewelry. I feel traveling with permanent jewelry is actually much safer as theft is less likely. Enjoy your travels and your sparkles!

There are so many positives to permanent jewelry. My best advice is to make sure you understand the pros & cons of each metal option and consider your lifestyle when choosing charms and connectors.
